Symphonicity Steps Back in Time for “Jurassic Journey,” Its 20th Annual Lollipop Concert for Families and Children
Symphonicity will be joined by Ballet Virginia International for a special children’s presentation of “Jurassic Journey” on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 3 PM. The concert will take place at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. Pre-concert activities for children will begin at 2 PM.
In this 45-minute presentation that features a full, live orchestra, audience members will be taken back in time through orchestral music to the prehistoric age of green moss, misty meadows and mega-dinosaurs. Ballet Virginia International dancers, special lighting and engaging graphics will add visual context to the musical adventure. Additionally, there will be a special sing-along!
Conducted by Symphonicity’s Music Director and Conductor Daniel W. Boothe and narrated by Pungo’s Back Bay Farm’s owner Gene Hansen, “Jurassic Journey” is a perfect opportunity to introduce children to the theatre and Virginia Beach’s symphony orchestra.
Also included is a special performance by 11-year-old violinist, Miro Raj, a member of The Philadelphia International Music Festival (PIMF) who was selected to be Symphonicity’s featured performer. Miro was PIMF’s concerto competition winner for the ten and under category in 2017.
Symphonicity recently announced this new partnership with PIMF, a summer music program offering students of all ages and skill levels the unique opportunity of spending up to four weeks immersed in classical music education and performance training, with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra and other internationally-acclaimed musicians.
Prior to the January 12th concert, starting at 2 PM, lobby activities will include an Instrument Petting Zoo, face-painting, student performances, and displays by the Virginia Living Museum, the Virginia Zoo, and the Virginia Aquarium, among others. For extra fun, audience members are encouraged to dress up like their favorite dinosaur or animal.
Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. For advanced $5 tickets, visit Symphonicity.org or call 757-671-8611. Tickets are also available through the Sandler Center Box Office from 10 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Friday or Saturday 10 AM – 2 PM, or by calling the Sandler Box Office 757-385-2787.
